Busy volleyball season beckons for local clubs

A series of international tournaments spells a busy schedule for Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) for season 2013.

A key highlight on the volleyball court for 2013 will be the qualification process for the 2014 World Championships that will take place in all continents.

According to draft calendar of event released by KVF sports organising Secretary Walter Otieno, World Championships Africa Zone Qualifiers will be held between August and December.

Kenyans open their international campaign at the traditional CAVB African Clubs Championships set to take place between March and April at a venue to be decided later.

National league champions — Prisons men and women’s teams — are Kenya’s official representatives in the annual tournament.

Prisons women, who are reigning champions, have won the continental trophy five times in the last six years.

Double victory

With their male counterparts joining them in the African Club Championships, Prisons teams are expected to entertain as never before as they chase double victory at continental level.

Winners of the tournament will represent Africa in the World Clubs Championships that has since been move to May from October.

Senior national teams will be back in action with destination being 2013 African Nations Championships for both men and women which will be held at a venue yet to be decided in September.

There is plenty in store for upcoming players with several international tournaments lined up in the programme.
