One actor makes a big jump in the judge’s rankings this week on “Dancing with the Stars” as several stars on Season 17 begin to pull away from the pack.

Brant Daugherty and Peta Murgatroyd — 27 out of 30
Brant lets us in on the fact that he somehow sprained a ligament in his foot and had to spend some of the rehearsal week in a “boot.” Oh, and he was robbed at gunpoint! Bury the lede, dude!
Clever man gave the thief his dance bag and only lost a shirt and his Latin dance shoes. His partner Peta Murgatroyd was more than a little worried that his injury would put them behind but their Quickstep was stellar.
Head judge Len Goodman loved it and praised their speed and control. Bruno Tonioli called it joyful and stylish and Carrie Ann Inaba said he danced as though he wasn’t injured.
Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff — 26 out of 30
If Karina Smirnoff pushes her partner this much during week three, can you just imagine what she’ll do in the coming months? She choreographs the fastest Quickstep anyone can remember seeing on this show in 17 seasons. Corbin is up to the challenge and works hard to master the footwork and frame in his very first ballroom dance (he had Contemporary and Jive during weeks one and two).
Bruno calls the routine one for the record books and Carrie Ann says he “nailed it.” Len was a bit of a stick in the mud and thought when the speed came in, the style sometimes went out.
Christina Milian and Mark Ballas — 26 out of 30
It looks like Christina wants to make sure people don’t see her as her former persona of the teen pop star. Mark Ballas choreographs a very grown up Charleston, and Tom Bergeron likened her costume to something from “Frederick’s of Hollywood. Her adorable little girl came by the rehearsal hall to remind us that Christina’s a mom, too. The judges loved the couple’s performance factor, with Bruno calling it inventive and stylistic.
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Sasha Farber — 25 out of 30
The tough Jersey girl comes out of Nicole and says she was downright embarrassed by the “6′s” she got last week. Sasha Farber handles her toughness and tells us it’s really just an act. Snooki gets down to business in rehearsal and works hard to perfect her Quickstep. They also add a little spice to the elegant dance with a dual one handed cartwheel (you have to see it).
Len admitted he was surprised by how well she did in her first true “ballroom” dance. And Carrie Ann said she was blown away!
Elizabeth Berkley Lauren and Val Chmerkovskiy — 25 out of 30
Yes, Elizabeth and Val Chmerkovskiy had a fantastic Foxtrot. But first, we must give kudos to Tom Bergeron for calling them out on the Twitter “hashtag” speak. Tom said “hashtag stop” and we cheered.
Back to the dance, Val and Elizabeth raided ABC’s costume closet and found some old “Pan Am” uniforms to illustrate “Come Fly Away.” Carrie Ann said she took her performance to new heights, Bruno commented she was flying first class all the way, and Len quipped that Lizzie should keep busy because she’s a contender.
Leah Remini and Tony Dovolani — 24 out of 30
Leah channels her best Bond girl with a sultry Rumba to Adele’s Oscar winning song “Skyfall.” After she watched last week’s dance on tape, Leah decided she doesn’t like her “sexy face” and planned to work on that for this week.
She and partner Tony Dovolani genuinely seem to like one another and have a playful repertoire in rehearsal and on the dance floor. The judges like to see that she’s growing week to week, and Bruno was so taken with her devilish dance he said he was “going straight here.” Oh Bruno.
Bill Engvall and Emma Slater — 24 out of 30
He’s a top comedian, but Engvall says this competition is no joke. He finally admitted that he really is in it to win it. He had to bring Emma Slater on the road with him to a few comedy shows so they were learning the Paso Doble in various cities in the South. Bill wasn’t quite sure about the Paso, and thought it sounded like a favorite Mexican food dish, but he committed to learning the steps and he did.
They performed to the theme from “The Lone Ranger” and that had Carrie Ann hollering “Hi Ho Silver!” All three judges were impressed with not just the dance but also Bill’s progress.
Amber Riley and Derek Hough — 24 out of 30
If Amber wants to be a triple threat in Hollywood, this is her week to prove it. We knew she could sing and act, from her time on “Glee.” Now she’s showing how much she’s learning on the dance floor, thanks to Derek Hough. Amber had a rough week, schedule wise, but a few yawns during rehearsal didn’t stop her progress.
Derek choreographed a fast and fun Charleston, with a touch of Hip-Hop thrown in for good measure. Len thought the routine was full of razzle, dazzle, glitz and glamour. Bruno and Carrie Ann praised her performance abilities but want Amber to work on her energy and sharpness.
Jack Osbourne and Cheryl Burke — 22 out of 30
With this week’s Hollywood theme, a lot of the couples went back to a more “golden age” of tinsel town. But not Jack and Cheryl Burke! It was 70′s night for this couple, and they did a Cha Cha Cha to the fun “Hollywood Swingin’.”
Jack says he’s really feeling the pressure now that they have less time to learn each new dance. He enters the ballroom in a brand new way: Super slide! The judges called the dance good not great, but admire his commitment and ambition.
Valerie Harper and Tristan MacManus — 16 out of 30
Val just keeps on plugging: bad knees, oldest in the competition, oh, and cancer. Tristan MacManus treats her like the royalty she is and lets her shine this week in full Grace Kelly regalia. The fact that he was dressed as Freddie Mercury was a little odd, but there was a lot of oddness this week. The couple attempted a Cha Cha Cha. The dance didn’t receive rave reviews, but Harper’s star quality is through the roof.
Bill Nye and Tyne Stecklein — 16 out of 30
We knew Bill was “playing hurt” and this torn quad was a pretty serious injury. Nye philosophized that people don’t regret what they do — they regret what they DON’T do. So, he challenged Tyne Stecklein to come up with a dance where he didn’t actually dance. They called it Jazz. There was a robot theme. I’m not sure how Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” fit into a Hollywood theme. This was pretty much a mess. But a fun mess.
